Thursday 12th January 1928
Born on this day, Lloyd Ruby, US race driver, twice World Sportcars Champion (1966, 1968), winner of Le Mans 24 hours (1967), Daytona 2000 km (1965), 24 Hours of Daytona (1966) and 12 Hours of Sebring (1966). He took part in two Grands Prix, once at the Indy 500 when it still counted as a round of the World Championship and in the 1961 US Grand Prix. Actually, Ruby led the Indy 500 in five occasions, but never actually won the big race. Ruby also played a key role in Ford Motor Company’s GT40 program in the mid-1960s.
