Giancarlo Fisichella

Born on this day, Giancarlo Fisichella, Italian who has driven in Formula One for Renault, Sauber, Jordan, Benetton, Minardi, and Force India team, with 3 wins and 19 podium finishes.Fisichella got his first chance by Minardi, initially as a test driver for 1995 while he was racing for Alfa Romeo in the DTM and ITC. For 1996 Giancarlo Minardi promoted him to F1 driver and the next season the Italian was rented out to Eddie Jordan. He scored a stunning 2nd place on his first visit to Spa, only beaten by Michael Schumacher. 1998 brought a switch to Benetton and 2nd places at Monaco and Canada and the same result in 1999 in Montreal. Moving back to Jordan in 2002 but as the team was by then struggling for money he was frustrated until the start of 2003 when he pulled off an impressive, albeit fortunate, victory in Brazil. This put him in the spotlight again, he joined Sauber in 2004 and did such a good job that he got a good offer from Renault for 2005. He started the season on a high winning in Australia, but spent two years in the shadow of his rising star team-mate Fernando Alonso. Struggling with Renault in 2007 he was dropped at the end of the season an joined Force India, the team that originally used to be the Jordan outfit, for the 2008 F1 season.
