Eddie Cheever

Born on this day, Eddie Cheever, American racing driver who raced for almost thirty years in Formula One, Sports cars, CART and the Indy Racing League. iGrowing through the ranks of junior formulae and the German DRM Group 5 Championship, Cheever entered Formula One at very young age and participated in 132 Grands Prix, more than any other American. Driving for nine different teams from 1978 through 1989 his biggest success was finishing 2nd at the US-East Grand Prix in 1982. He repeated the result next season at the Canadian Grand Prix. Returning to the States he formed his own IRL team in 1996 and won the Indianapolis 500 as both an owner and driver in 1998.
