Bobby Labonte, who failed to lead a single green-flag lap, won the rain-shortened Pepsi Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, South Carolina (US). After starting 37th, Labonte grabbed the lead with a quick caution-flag pit stop and was out front when a thunderstorm brought the race to a halt.
