Tuesday 16th April 1918
Born on this day, Bob Flock, stock-car racing pioneer Bob Flock. The oldest of the racing Flock brothers — with Fonty and Tim — started on the pole position in the very first NASCAR Strictly Stock (now Sprint Cup) race and won twice in NASCAR’s first season in 1949. Bob Flock won twice more in his 36-race career in NASCAR’s top series, but is credited with many more wins that pre-date the sanctioning body’s formation.
