American Motors and the Packard Motor Car Company signed a reciprocal accord whereby Packard would apply AMC with V-8 engine, and AMC would supply automobile bodies to Packard. The deal quickly was found to be one-sided in Packard’s favour, and AMC Chairman George W Romney ordered Meade F Moore to initiate a crash program to develop their own V-8.
