A wooden platform built at Dakar for the podium ceremony at the end of the final stage of the 1988 Rallye Paris-Alger-Dakar, in Senegal, collapsed. Too many spectators had gathered on the platform to witness the finish of the race, their weight was too much for the rickety structure, which gave way, killing one female young spectator.
