A Citroën expedition set off in an attempt to become the first to cross the Sahara Desert by motor car, travelling from Algiers to Timbuktu, a distance of approximately 2,000 miles. They averaged 90 miles a day in 10-bhp Type B2 half-tracks – an enormous effort for the period – and arrived in Timbuktu on 7 January.
