A 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster was sold at auction in Pebble Beach, California for $4.5 million. Dubbed the ‘Mormon Meteor’, this Duesenberg, built to set land-speed records, had averaged 135.47 mph when raced by ‘Ab’ Jenkins (who was a practising Mormon, hence the car’s nickname) over 24 hours around a 10-mile circuit marked by a black line around the Bonneville Salt Flats.
