ARTIFICIALLY INTELLIGENT CARS

When we talk about evolution, we can surely say the last decade or two have seen some enormous updates and changes in almost every field. Be it the field of automation and technology or food and lifestyle, there has been some drastic change that has taken place.

These evolutions were possible because of the collaboration that happened between humans and machine. The humans made the machines learn the patterns the humans were following, and the machines were expected to do those tasks once they are trained enough. Well we can say the chemistry between humans and machines have worked wonders and has given a rise to a new ERA of machine learning.
EVOLUTION OF CARS
The automation industry certainly has come a long way. If we move quarter or half a century ago the mode of transportation was not that great and no one except for those who believed in this evolution expected such a tremendous change. And still there are a lot of visions and plans laid ahead for a great reconstruction.
There was an era where carts made from wood and wheels made of metal and was pulled by humans or animals were considered luxurious. Came an era where car had metal bodies and engines were installed and gears were introduced, and cars were driven by a person.
Though we still have cars drive by human, the engines kept evolving and getting better. The fuel requirement for various machines differs and the power kept increasing. And came a time where even the gears were replaced by automatic transmission.
It just kept getting better and better with time and the automation kept coming into the picture with the help of machine learning. Different level of automations was planned and from no automation to highly autonomous to fully autonomous everything is planned to be just huge.

FULLY AUTONOMOUS CARS

When we talk about fully autonomous cars, we are talking about cars that would drive all by itself only depending on the data that is fed to it. Now a lot of question would arise around how this all would be done? And what if wrong data is fed? Who would take control if things go out of control?
As far as data is concerned, 3D view of spatial data is captured mainly using LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) technology. And then it is combined with 2D maps to produce the actual maps that are going to be fed to the autonomous cars and based on this data the cars would be operated.
The data captured using LIDAR technology is highly accurate and even the maps designed based on this data is highly accurate with minimal buffer for mistake and at the same time goes through a series of checks before being tested on cars.

SAFETY LEVEL IN ARTIFICIALLY INTELLIGENT CARS

Whenever there are plans to make advancement in any field, safety is one of the major aspects that is taken into consideration. Even after going through so many checks and tests there were a few cases of accidents in recent past.
To understand the safety level and the level of trust we can showcase in these cars, we first need to understand that there are various levels of automations as well. At certain levels, if the situation is out of control the car would hand over the control to the human behind the wheel. Whereas, at certain level, no matter what the car takes full responsibility to get the situation under control.
The main motive behind this evolution is to curb the number of fatal accidents happening around the globe everyday and bring it down to 0. So far all this sounds great, but we must keep in mind that these are machines and they are made intelligent artificially and it must be taken into consideration that such intelligent machines are highly prone to be altered by unethical ways of hacking.

WRAP UP

Considering all these discussions around a decade or two ago would have seemed to be a distant dream, but not anymore. With such strong visions we can expect this evolution anytime soon. Let’s hope for the best and keep moving ahead.
For now, all we can do is be safe, drive safe, follow the norms and take care of our non-autonomous cars. Since everything is automated we can surely hope that the documents of our cars also goes paperless and the car insurance renewal reminder can be sent to us from time to time so that we stay protected.
