Whether you are traveling in a bus, travel trailer, or a full on 50 foot motorhome the RV life is a growing community of people passionate about connecting with the outdoors while still having the comforts of home.

Even if you are a RV enthusiast you may be surprised by some of these facts that we were able to find.

1) The first motorized campers were built in 1910

The Ford model T started rolling off the production lines in 1908.  It did not take long after the invention of the automobile for people to start making recreational vehicles or RV’s (recreational vehicles) that would allow them the freedom to live wherever their vehicle could take them. Starting in 1910 the first motorized campers started hitting the streets.

2) In the 1930’s RVers Started Upgrading Their Rigs

To make their trips more comfortable for themselves and families. People started adding all the amenities like beds, kitchens, and indoor plumbing. These additions made the outings a lot more comfortable for the whole family and easier to convince them all to come along.

Now 10% may not sound like much but it equates to 8.9 million american households that own some form of recreational vehicle. As the large baby boomer generation heads towards retirement many are estimating for that number to grow. Many people own a caravan instead of an RV. 9) The RV Industry is Worth Billions

The RV industry goes far beyond just selling the motorhome themselves. There are more than 22,000 RV businesses that provide nearly 300,000 jobs. The paid wages for those jobs resulted in $15.8 billion in 2015.

10) 60% of RV’s are Manufactured in Elkhart Indiana

More RVs are manufactured in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world. More than 80% of RVs are made in Indiana. The crazy part is that 60% of the RV’s manufactured in Indiana are manufactured in Elkhart County alone.
